About Implant Dentistry

Implant dentistry is a newer option when it comes to missing tooth replacement that allows your dentist to securely and permanently replace your missing teeth. Dental implants are actually made up of three different parts. The implant itself is actually a tiny, titanium post that is surgically attached to the jawbone. The implant is allowed to heal following placement, where it will bond with the jaw bone and become secure. Once healed, the abutment is then attached to the portion of the implant sticking out from the gums. The abutment allows the restoration to be secured to the implant itself. The restoration can be a dental crown for a single tooth or a dental bridge, partial or even denture for replacement of multiple missing teeth.

Why Dental Implants?

When it comes to having missing teeth in your smile, it actually has a much bigger impact than just the appearance. Missing teeth can cause bone loss and demineralization in the mouth, leading to loose teeth, teeth shifting/misalignment, and even tooth loss. Dental implants can prevent these issues from occurring while improving the patient’s ability to properly bite, chew, eat, and even speak.
